This world has a funny way of revealing things to us. In fact our very being is based off the contradictions of the two things we all know as light and darkness. It’s in everything, good/evil, love/hate, truth/lies, peace/anxiety, unity/division and honesty/deception.
This very nature is what drives us to be who we are and why we do the things we do. Just think about it. Our entire perception of the world is based on the belief of good and evil, literally everything.
Look around, do you see that person over there? Are they rich or poor? Is that house big or small? Is the film character good or bad? Do you feel that – Is the air hot or cold? Or wait here’s one, are you full of love or hate?
Love, you say internally. Of course it’s love! Aren’t we all full of that four letter word? More than enough to go around. I’m sure of it. Right? That’s why the homeless are deprived of humanly contact and we bypass the stranger on the street who could use a free smile or even an encouraging message. That’s why so many friends, even ourselves feel alone and as though our suffering isn’t seen or even heard. That’s why the division used to destroy us, is being used ourselves, against others. Isn’t it?
You know what, let’s take a break from all of that and let’s love ourselves. Let’s forget the homeless man on the same street corner begging for just a smile, to drive your Lexus 20 miles over the speed limit back home, only to go out a half an hour later to fetch something more your soul craves. Let’s pretend to ignore the sobbing grown man on the bus who, unknowingly to you, is contemplating suicide due to the love his life lacks. Only to turn to the person next to you in an attempt to solve the mystery of the odd grown guy who’s going through his midlife crisis, to try and give you two something to feel united over for the next ten minutes. Maybe if one person gave him the smallest glimmer of hope, on his most dreadful of days, he could find the will to live again.
Oh, and that friend who feels alone and unsupported? Just let her ‘cry for help’ soak a little bit longer and pretend you don’t notice, because if you don’t notice, it’s not there right? Pretend you don’t notice because you’re busy with life. You have things to do and money to make, and much more work to do if you desire to make it to first place. That better car, nicer house, greater paying job and the list goes on.
We’ve all been there, every single one of us. We put what truly matters on the back burner only to search for something greater. So what is that thing we’re all searching for?
Well, that’s Love. The thing we always put above and below us but never quite in the hearts of who we are.
I’ve lived that lie before. The lie that, after saving up money and daydreaming of myself happy in that car, in that house, with that person, THEN everything will be okay. Ahh yes, me a year from now is gonna be so complete! But for some odd reason, time keeps passing. Goals keep getting completed, so new ones are made, the new car has grown old with rust and that relationship built on high hopes has fizzled. Life moves on but our hearts keep searching for the God-sized void to allow our dreamful wishes, so closely attached to material things, to complete us.
Hear this. The love of God is so magnificent, so holy and beyond fulfilling. This world is searching for love but is chasing lies, intertwined through everything we’ve been taught to strive for. When will we come to know the truth that God, abundant in love, and rich in mercy has never left us nor forsaken us. He has always been with us, surrounding us in every way, patiently waiting for the day we see the truth.
God loves us, and through our worst of days, He never hesitates to love us just the same, always. God loves the sinner but hates sin. Romans 3:23 – For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. That’s why God is perfect, without sin and flaw and has showed us a world of both light and darkness, that we may search for the truth and choose light. We all have forsaken our promise of ourselves being good, but remember: none is good but God. (Mark 10:18).

Understanding we are powerless to save ourselves, God loves us so dearly, that He sent His only begotten son, Jesus who was made in the complete perfect image of God, to endure the penalty of sin which is death. Jesus defeated death and in return, God granted us the gift of everlasting life. Salvation through Him who saves. Repent and trust in Jesus to be delivered from the deception of this life and into The Light of Truth.
