Why God Allows Bad Things to Happen

We live in a fallen world, which means it’s far from perfect. There’s a mixture of God’s love and light, and then sin with all the bad that comes from it.

There’s good things that occur: love, unity, peace, joy. And bad that occurs: lying, cheating, theft, abandonment, abuse, hatred, and betrayal.

Obviously these things give birth to the good and bad things that happen in life. So why does God allow the bad things to happen?

The simple answer? Free will. Which is both a gift and a curse. It’s a beautiful thing that we’re not robots but with the ability to choose, comes consequences. Consequences that we reap both on the Earth and in eternity.

See, God doesn’t cause any of the bad things to happen, we do. And through sin, bad things keep happening, which eventually leads to destruction.

Due to the freewill we are given, with the knowledge of good and evil; we are subject to our actions and God cannot intercede any time something bad happens. That’s not to say that He won’t intercede when bad things happen, because He has. More times than we even know or give Him credit for. But it just means He’s allowing free will to occur.

I’m sure every one of us has almost faced something so traumatic and scary but somehow the situation was saved and turned around before it turned into something unbearable.

Whether it be a close call with a car accident, falling from a three-story building and somehow surviving (true story: it happened to my sister’s friend), sleeping-in or getting sick the day you have to work in a building that’s bound to collapse (also true story that happened to countless people, on 9/11), and many more examples.

We tend to forget who saves us from the unbearable and gives us peace and protection in times of distress. Remember, every good gift comes from the Lord.

The air we breathe, our homes, the ability to think for ourselves, to touch, to see, to walk and be mobile, to imagine, the light surrounding us, the glowing clouds in the sky, rain, water, nourishment, good company, peace, laughter, heartfelt connections, love, animals and everything in-between.

It’s funny because some of us spend our days not even giving God the space in our minds, never even thanking Him. Yet, the moments our worlds crumble, He’s the first one to blame. How is that even fair.

God isn’t just going to step out of the clouds as an enormous giant to fix all of our problems; to give the homeless food and shelter, to give us money when we run out, to comfort us when we’re sad and hurting, and to heal us when disease and pain grip us. He also isn’t going to speak to most of us through a thunderous loud voice from a corner of the room when asked if He’s real.

That’s the thing though, God has it written for us in the bible; how to handle life’s problems. And honestly, if all of us listened to how Jesus showed us to live in the bible, this world would be perfect and blameless, lacking nothing.

Think about it. Regarding the homeless, Jesus gave us many scriptures to fix that problem.

By living well, that doesn’t mean to be rich, that means to have enough to sustain yourself. We need to stop lying to ourselves while wondering if our lives alone make a difference, because each person makes a difference, all adding up to seven billion lives.

Regarding money and being worried about what you’re going to eat and wear. Jesus said:

Just as a good father would take care of his son, that’s how our Father takes care of us. About being sad and feeling lonely:

Lastly, God actually has and continues to heal those in pain, battling cancer, etc. He even said He would perform miracles through prayer in the bible.

Now about hearing God’s voice. He’s not far away, in fact He’s all around us. Watching us all of the time (kind of scary, I know) but it’s not like that. God is a spirit; a massive, endless, complete holy and divine spirit and He knows everything. It’s just who He is. Regardless of His divinity, He’s still a mystery. With a quiet but real guiding voice.

Growing up, I always heard people talking about how God spoke to them and told them to this or that. And I just stood there like what are these people talking about, I never heard God speak to me; assuming he would talk to me in a loud thunderous voice to warn me not to do things like not to touch a hot stove.

But now it makes sense. God speaks softly, in not so subtle ways, through Godly visions/dreams, and through undeniable knowances in our spirits. He may highlight things to us, or give us a sign, or he may speak through people in a way that is confirmation about what you may have been praying about.

The moral of the story: faith and prayer hold the key to God’s graces.

God is always in control and nothing catches Him by surprise. He is outside of time and knows every beginning and every end. Therefore, he works through people to perform miracles and gives certain people insight on things to prevent bad things from happening. Here’s a real life example that has happened;

There was a mom, her very young son and her baby girl up on a baby changing station, while the mom is turned away, the baby girl is seconds away from rolling off the 4-5 foot tall crib, onto the hardwood floor. Suddenly, her small brother’s attention is directed towards the baby and within the same moment, as she’s falling, the small child sprints towards her and catches her, right before she hits the ground. Later in an interview, the boy says he has no idea how that happened. He told the interviewer, that he can’t even run that fast and wasn’t strong enough to carry his sister. This was all caught on camera. I fully believe the child was given supernatural aid, for speed and strength, to save the baby from getting hurt. Here’s the video and honestly the whole video is pretty amazing.

God truly works through people to save situations. Most people give themselves the credit, but I believe Gods the one at work beneath the surface.

There’s so many videos and personal stories of people who have experienced supernatural encounters that they just could not explain. This includes angelic encounters where people have been helped out of sometimes life-threatening situations by beings who have showed up out of nowhere and disappear right after.

If you’re interested in looking into some of those, just search things like ‘something that happened to you that no one believes’ and ‘what is the most supernatural warning you’ve ever received?’ on Quora. It’s honestly one of my favorite rabbit holes to fall into whenever I wanna read something cool and it never fails to surprise me.

Anyway, the Lord doesn’t operate according to the human clock. He does things according to His timing. Therefore, decent people have to unfortunately endure through terrible things and circumstances. These things are only temporary discomfort.

This world is very temporary and time is short.

This doesn’t mean God doesn’t care or isn’t watching. He sees all and knows all that occurs at every moment.

Humans only have an average life expectancy of about seventy-two years while most animals have a short life expectancy. Because in the end, every single being to ever live, will pass away from here. There is no doubt about that. This means all suffering is short lived for the innocent.

Animals are innocent because they have no knowledge of God’s law, therefore cannot sin against their creator because they aren’t aware of the difference between good and evil. On the other hand, humans are under the law and therefore are the ones who cause chaos, division and destruction on Earth. So when we pass away from this Earth, we will transcend to judgment.

Therefore, every soul will receive judgment according to what they did whilst on Earth. Those who pierced and rejected Him, will get pierced and rejected themselves with their own sin to testify against them. But those who repent and flee from wickedness by surrendering and trusting in Jesus will by all means find life.

There are some awful things that some people endure by maybe being born with defects or by enduring famine and of course those aren’t anyone’s fault. Those sort of things are bound to happen along with the cycle of life. But Jesus nevertheless gives us hope in the midst of unfair anguish.

All in all, life is short. The pain and suffering that people and animals endure is short lived. Evil deeds and injustice that appear to be let go, will never go unpunished because our God is an all-Holy and all Righteous Father who is faithful. His law is written on our hearts and He hates sin because of what it produces; destruction.

In the midst of it all, keep looking to Jesus because the hope that is coming is real. There will be a day with no more tears, no more pain and no more fears. There will be a daaaaay when the burdens of this place, will be no more, we’ll see Jesus face to face. That’s from one of my favorite songs but it’s so real and it’s something I encourage you to hold on to in the midst of life’s troubles; because one day, everything will be okay.
